Public Policy and Women’s Issues

Advocacy and action for current issues affecting women and girls

National Public Policy Program

The national Public Policy Program underscores AAUW’s mission of promoting equity for women and girls. The work of AAUW builds upon over a century of responsible participation at the local, state, national and international levels. AAUW is committed to working in partnership with diverse allies. Current action priorities are:

• To support a strong system of public education that promotes gender fairness, equity and diversity. We support Title IX issues.
• To achieve economic self sufficiency for all women.
• To guarantee equality, individual rights and social justice for a diverse society.
• To support affirmative action in employment, career development and pay equity, dependent care, affordable housing, healthcare access and environmental protection.

State Public Policy Program

Among other issues, at the state level, AAUW-Oregon has supported:

• Public Higher Education--including both Universities and Community Colleges
• Elimination of discrimination and violence
• Fair and accountable State and Local Government
• Available quality health care

Local Public Policy Program

National and State AAUW Public Policy issues as well as Public Policy concerns within our communities which are consistent with these policies.

Attendance at election-related programs and to assist in “get out the vote” operations locally.
