The Medford Branch participates in activities to benefit young people and the community. Each year members are involved in local programs as sole sponsors or as partners with other organizations.
- Contributions to AAUW Funds. This is the international philanthropic arm of AAUW, and Medford Branch has been recognized nationally for its contributions. AAUW will award $3.2 million in 2010-2011 in support of 215 scholars, research projects, and programs promoting education and equity for women and girls.
- Scholarships for women to Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College. Fundraising from several sources allows the Medford Branch to give scholarships to deserving women to help them advance their education at these local schools.
- Children’s Festival. This annual event has been co-sponsored with Storytelling Guild for more than forty years. AAUW Medford has charge of the Food Booth.
- KidSpree. We provide food and volunteers to help support this children’s back-to-school shopping project.
- Fall Garden Tour. AAUW Medford is the sole sponsor and organizer of this area-wide tour of lovely gardens as a fundraiser for scholarships and other branch projects.
- Dunn House, Kids Unlimited and Maslow Project. We collect donations for these local nonprofits that help battered women, organize after-school programs for kids and provide clothes, healthy snacks, toiletries and other items for homeless teens. We also volunteer for hands-on projects when requested.
- Parent/Daughter Fair. We co-sponsor and provide snacks, door prizes and help with check-in desk for this one-day event to instruct and empower girls ages 9 to 13.
- Holiday gifts and funds for children in foster care. In addition to toys and presents, members collect money to be used for passes to bowling alleys, ScienceWorks museum, and other entertainment venues that youngsters would enjoy.
- Participation in public policy activities. While keeping a neutral stance, we work with League of Women Voters to inform the public about candidates and issues on the ballot, especially issues that impact the lives of women and children.
- Judge high school senior projects. Members participating in this event find themselves impressed with the caliber of the projects and enjoy the interaction with senior students.
- Maintain a variety of interest groups. Members who enjoy books, bridge, sewing, antiques, good food, gardening and taking walks will find an interest group that suits them. If you have a different hobby you are welcome to initiate a new interest group and see if others will join.
